Engine swap ea82 carb'd blew can I replace with ea82 mpfi-spfi?

Featured Replies

My carb'd ea82 seized and I found an ea82 not carb'd. Is it difficult to switch mpfi or spfi to carb. Or change everything to support mpfi - spfi?

The carb manifild will bolt right onto an spfi block. You will have to ditch the AAV ststem on the back of the heads (tape quarters over the ports) and you will have to swap the egr pipe on the driver side head to match the carb intake.

You will gain a compression increase, you can turn the timing up to 10 deg for a little more pep.

the carb intake will not work on an mpfi head as the prts are different. However, any heads will bolt onto any blocks. Avoid turbo blocks since they are lower compression.

Thanks.

So i can swap the heads from the carb'd engine in either case. I'm not sure if the one I found is multi port or single. Idk if I can pass the deal up I originally got an 86&87 gl wagons both for 500$. this guy is asking 300$ for the low mile engine. I love this car it's a warrior for sure I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. The 87 has a blown engine thanks to me. I want to do an ej swap on one of them. Being my first Subarus to tinker with I kinda want to do a simple swap before I dive into the ej swap.....

I think you'll need to use the disty from the carb motor, with the vac advance, as well.
