wrong oil pressure switch?

Featured Replies

Just put a new oil pressure switch (the one to the gauge not the kind with the light) and now my oil pressure is way too high.

My old one gave good readings but it was bent and dripping oil from the body (not the threads) like somebody hit it on a rock or something.

Anybody ever have the problem of getting a high reading after installing a new oil sending unit?

hi,

if your instrument cluster has a guage i think they should have the big sender, that is like 2" long and 1-1/2" diameter one,  if you put a little one (used with the light)  on it,  that might give a bad reading, but the best test is a mechanical guage and then you know what the pressure really is. another thing is the factory guage are not always correct reading, and if matched with an aftermarket sender , the reading can be off by a fair amount, and not actually represent a reliable reading.

I did for sure get the sender for the gauge and not the light. Got to get a mechanical pressure tester. The gauge was reading correct a few days ago before a valve adjust oil change new sending unit. so its pretty strange. I think I might just need a different brand sending unit

but will check oil pressure with mechanical tester just to make sure

I have had new senders read wrong, usually on the low side but I did have one that blew the gauge out the top. I went back and got a replacement and it worked fine.
