clutch install advice and motor mount Q?

Featured Replies

hey all,

gathering my bits for my first Sube Clutch job (82 GLW 4wd D/R), any tips/advise to share would be appreciated. I did a VW a while ago so kinda familiar.

Also, while motor is out, I would like to install ureuthane motor mounts, anyone have a source for these for an older Sube!? Do they exist, or only for newer models like Imps?

thx a bunch!

I think GD was talking about making custom Poly mounts for us EA81 guys. Not sure what ever happend with that.

When are you doing the clutch? If you need a hand, let me know and give me a time-frame. I have weekends off now, but this weekend is booked and same as next saturday. Sunday the 16th im free tho. ive done 2 EA81 clutches, and both are cake! Are you going with a performance clutch? or just a plain reman clutch? I was able to find a clutch kit for my '84 for $120 from AutoZone.

You dont need to pull the motor to replace the clutch......thats a lot of extra work. You can either remove the radiator and slide the motor forward or remove the driveshaft (assuming its 4wd) and slide the tranny back. Of course it you are going to remove the motor for other reasons then disregard my little diatribe. :-)

Make sure you have a clutch alignment tool for the job........other than that its a pretty straightforward job. Sometimes its helpful to have longer bolts to get the engine and tranny mated a bit easier (then you put the original bolts back in when its actually together). Or you can use a really big hammer! :-)
