Torque Converter

Featured Replies

hello guys i have a 05 Forester and recently my torque converter is making this weird sound like metal knocking around in the converter, the forester runs finds but the noise is annoying and i was just wondering what could be causing the noise in the Torque converter

also it started doing it on park and now it does it on park , Reverse and even on Drive soo i am pretty sure is getting worse everytime i drive it

Not very common for torque converters to fail.

More likely for the flexplate to crack which can make a clicking or knocking sound.

Or you could have a bad rod bearing.

There is a small black cover on the bell housing passenger side top that can be removed for access to the 4 bolts that secure the torque converter to the flex plate. Make sure none are loose.

Fluid level good?

Torque converter issue would be very bizarre.

Vehicle history:
1.  are you the original owner?
2.  has the engine/trans ever been out?

there's a small metal cover plate under the bellhousing that's attached by two 10mm bolts on each side.

if those bolts are not tightened probably or it was ben you'll get a knocking, whirring, or other sound depending on how/what it's interfereing with on the torque converer (starter teeth, etc).

cracked flexplate

and low fluid will causea  chirp, chirp chirping sound.

ok so the i changed the motor recently and the torque converter fell  offf while removing the engine is was put back together but i am not sure if the person put it in the right way,, i know definitely that is not rod or bad valve because i did i sound check and it come directly form the torque converter so that's why i wasn't sure  some times when i stop at a light it feels like the car wants to shut off but it doesn't like the rpms fall under they suppose to be but it levels out again
