June 22, 201411 yr hello guys i have a 05 Forester and recently my torque converter is making this weird sound like metal knocking around in the converter, the forester runs finds but the noise is annoying and i was just wondering what could be causing the noise in the Torque converter also it started doing it on park and now it does it on park , Reverse and even on Drive soo i am pretty sure is getting worse everytime i drive it
June 22, 201411 yr Not very common for torque converters to fail. More likely for the flexplate to crack which can make a clicking or knocking sound. Or you could have a bad rod bearing. There is a small black cover on the bell housing passenger side top that can be removed for access to the 4 bolts that secure the torque converter to the flex plate. Make sure none are loose.
June 22, 201411 yr Fluid level good? Torque converter issue would be very bizarre. Vehicle history:1. are you the original owner?2. has the engine/trans ever been out? there's a small metal cover plate under the bellhousing that's attached by two 10mm bolts on each side. if those bolts are not tightened probably or it was ben you'll get a knocking, whirring, or other sound depending on how/what it's interfereing with on the torque converer (starter teeth, etc). cracked flexplate and low fluid will causea chirp, chirp chirping sound. June 30, 201411 yr Author ok so the i changed the motor recently and the torque converter fell offf while removing the engine is was put back together but i am not sure if the person put it in the right way,, i know definitely that is not rod or bad valve because i did i sound check and it come directly form the torque converter so that's why i wasn't sure some times when i stop at a light it feels like the car wants to shut off but it doesn't like the rpms fall under they suppose to be but it levels out again
