OBD Code P-0183 Howing up? Didn't know Subies had a temp sender in thegas tank....

Featured Replies

Recently bought a well used(283k) 98 Legacy L Wagon with RD for postal route.  It needs some TLC, but should go another 400k if I can get ahead of the salt gremlins.  The CEL stays lit up and the code it's throwing is the 183 which has something to do with the fuel temp sender.  Anyone know where that's at on the 2.2 SOHC??  Some say it's' in the fuel rail near the engfne and others say it's in the tank.  How do you fix such a code??

It's in the tank. A little bulb thing on the side of the main fuel pump assembly.

Most likely the connectors in the plug on top are corroded or a mouse chewed the wires.

There's an access panel in the floor pan of the cargo area behind the right rear seat.

Thanks.   I have a spare pump in the shop.  I'll see if I can figure out where it is and do a swap, since the one in the shop didn't throw any codes.  This car sat for like 3 years, so the mose scenario isn't totally laughable!!

Heck, I've had to repair groundhog damage under my hood.

Man those things can get mean when the dog chases 'em under the car...
