Hi, I have a 96 Legacy Outback 5spd 2.2 and I need to know whether a 99 impreza 2.2 engine will fit easily.

No. Electronics are totally different on the 99. You can bolt the 96 heads and intake onto the 99 shortblock if you just need the block.

 

Easier and cheaper though to find a 96-98 2.2.

the 96 outback 5 speed was the only outback 96 - 99 to get the reliable ej22 engine.

all other outbacks got the ej25 engine.
