2.2 valve train

Featured Replies

Anyone know what company offers 2.2 aftermarket, or hi-rpm valve train components. I'm looking for some better valve springs. I have looked at a few, but there are all for the 25 or 2.0.

Perhaps look into turbo ej22t 1990-1994 engines for parts and cross reference.

Will the valve train for those years work with a 97 ej22? I'm going with some delta cams and would like to upgrade the springs as well. I think that delta can supply them though. But thanks for the idea with the ej22t.

it would....but it would be a downgrade......Hydraulic w/solid follower.

Your 97 valvetrain is solid w/roller follower.

All EJ22 springs are the same

Stronger springs really aren't necessary with this engine. The valves are tiny and close readily. If your engine has a lot of miles, just getting New springs will be an improvement.

Good to know, but Ill be adding delta cams too. So I think I will need some better springs.

Also wondering if the springs from the ej20 or ej25 is interchangeable with the ej22. I found some crower springs and retainers on ebay. Ad says they are for the ej20 ej25 and ej22. Want to make sure they will fit before I buy them.

Found the springs!! Paeco has stiffer springs in stock for the 2.2. Just in case anyone else was wondering.

Paeco suggests that I use aluminum retainers with the stiffer springs to handle higher revs, but also said that if Im going as high as 7500 then I need titanium retainers. At $25 per retainer I cant justify dropping that much on retainers. What do you all think about this this? Ill probably just stick to the aluminum as they are $8 per retainer.

Are you using 2.2 heads and trying to get 7500 rpm?

I'm not sure the 2.2 heads flow well enough to achieve that.

Yes Im using 2.2 heads w/ the Delta 200's and the hi-rpm spring set from Paeco. Im also going to do some light porting and matching on the exhaust side. Ill be using Grimmspeed phenolics also. I think the aluminum retainers will probably be fine. Even if I can rev to 7500 its not like I will do it often. Plus im going off what Delta told me the cam is good up to. More just want to match the valve train with the cams. Im also using a 2.5 ecu for a higher rev limiter.
