December 18, 201411 yr I have a VLSD rear diff from a early 90's Legacy ss (4.1 ratio, w/stub shafts) and would like to install into my 98 impreza. My Impreza has the male axle shafts on diff side. Can I swap to legacy axles or build a hybrid axle w/ lego inside cv joints attached to the impreza axles? Any help would be great Thanks, Pat
December 18, 201411 yr Imp trans is 3.9 so you would have to change the trans as well as the axles. No hybrid axle needed.
December 18, 201411 yr Author Unfortunately my Imp is an auto w/ 4.1 gear ratio (checked build sheet through dealer, listed 4.1 gear ratio), so will I just need a set of lego rear axles? Any difference in length? p.s- thx for quick reply!
December 18, 201411 yr Just need the legacy axles that match the diff then. Length should be fine. Maybe a touch wider but not noticeable.
December 18, 201411 yr Author You Da Man, thank you very much!! I kinda got stuck with this lego diff when I was sourcing a CLSD for my old loyale, very happy I can finally put it to use! Thanks again
January 5, 201511 yr Author Well..... I went to do my rear diff swap, purchased the correct axles, double checked gear ratios and put the car up. Once the car was in the air I noticed my Impreza L has got the VA style rear diff : ( (like the brighton), can I swap the T-style diff in anyways? I researched it and it was saying something about it binding or being incorrect. And since I'm here- foolish of me but, are the input flanges the same on both diffs? I should have checked when it was up in the air.... Duh!
