January 3, 201511 yr Hello,, I have a 1987 Subaru 1800 GL Automatic with the original EA82 carburated engine, and i am thinking about a replacement engine for more power. What would be the best choice ?? I am thinking maybe EJ22 or even EJ25 ?? Does anyone know if it would fit to the transmission and so on ?? It is a great car but a bit sluggish for my taste since my other ride is a Yamaha FZS 1000 Fazer and that gives a real punch Not looking for that much in my Sub, but it deserves an upgrade.. Any ideas ??

January 5, 201511 yr Yep, just grab a WRX engine and tranny pull with harness and ECU and drop it in, not a difficult swap and the power is ideal.
January 5, 201511 yr The automatic trans is sluggish. The same engine will be more lively with a 5spd.
