I need to protect the paint on my '03 Legacy GT from kick up. However the fastners holding the leading edge of the rocker covers and fender protector are plastic? They will not hold a mud flap will they?

Ditch the plastic clips and get some stainless u-clips then use stainless screws to hold the mud flaps.

Napa usually carries them. Use stainless washers under the head of the screw if to increase holding area on the flap and keep it from getting ripped off.

 

Lowes or other hardware stores usually have stainless hardware as well.
