serious engine/trans issue

Featured Replies

Hey all

I have a 2005 2.5rs imprezza here is the issues that i am having hopefully i can get soem direction here

a few months ago i went to strat the care and the started was just spinning the Torque converter-the bolts for the flexplate/torque converter had sheered off.

i got a new flexplate drilled and retapped the bolt holes in the torque converter

the car drive fine for about a week than i heard what i thought at the time was dreaed rod knock there was also trans fluid leaking from around the bell houseing only when the engine was running.  it was leaking right around the powersteering actuator right on the exhuast pipes, a lot of smoke.

i pulled the engine again the bolts again had worked them self loose from the flexplate to torque converter

i have the engine completely broken down there is NO play in any of the rods, no cracked piston, no piston slap.  I put my impact gun and spun the motor NOT a single sound  from the block.

The number 1/3 head has a lot of play when i turn the pully (is this normal?)

Please any info would be great

Replace the TC/flexplate/and the front transmission seal. I think the beginning of your problems was probably loose flexplate/crankshaft bolts.
