Does anyone know what these hoses are connected to?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I've just acquired a 98' Legacy GT Limited and noticed that a few hoses under the hood don't seem to be connected to anything.  The engine seems to run fine, but I'm fairly certain the hoses connect to something.  I can find it in diagrams, but I can't seem to identify what exactly it is.  There are a few images attached where I've circled the relevant hose in red and the part itself in blue.  Anyone know what these are?

It's the charcoal canister for the evap system.

Is there a metal bracket sticking straight up about 2-3" bolted to the frame just below the radiator hose? If no, look under the right rear corner of the car behind the bumper for a black rectangular box, which is the other of two styles of evap canister. If it has the box at the back, the engine has been swapped.

The 98 should be rear canister, the transition year for the evap systems was 97. I would agree with Fairtax that the engine, or possibly just the intake manifold (very unlikely but still possible) has been changed.
