Need 12v power in the rear of a 5-door Impreza

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2015 Impreza Sport Limited 5-door hatchback. This is my first Subaru and I am really enjoying it. I am a ham radio operator and need 12 volt power in the rear of the cabin to power my radio. What's the easiest way to get access to 20 amps / 12 volts in the rear of the car?

Thanks,

John

jsrober,

The easiest way for you to do what you need is to run heavy guage wire from the battery through a rubber grommet in the firewall (one that already exists) to under the dash. Then by pulling and replacing the kick panel, door threshold panel, B pillar bottom panel, etc., route the wire under the carpeting on the inner side of the rocker panels to the rear side panels at the rear cargo area.

Then you need to install some sort of wiring block/cigarette lighter socket to plug into in the side of the panel, or under the cargo floor out of sight.

Be sure to install a 20 amp fuse and fuse holder right at the battery, easy to see and get to. Good Luck!

Hit a salvage yard and pull an accessory 12V outlet.  I snagged a couple from the back trunk wall of 96-99 Outbacks wagons.

I'm not certain about the Impreza since they do NOT recommend towing with it, but it's twin, the XV Crosstrek DOES allow towing. So you MAY have the same TRAILER WIRING HARNESS installed and taped back to the harness in the rear. It already has a 20A fuse installled in the interior fuse box.

Follow this PDF to see if you can FIND the connector, and if you do, pin 1 should be an ALWAYS ON +12v fused source, fuse #1 in the interior fusbox.
