1977 wagon. What else do i need to hook up?

Featured Replies

Hey all,

I am in the process of installing my ea81 and 4spd dr into my 1977 wagon. I have almost everything hooked up. The only positive lead i have goes to the starter. My wiring diagram shows two more leads coming off the positive post. I have no power when i turn the key. What do these other connectors look like? I bought this wagon as a shell so im flying blind. Thanks!

You'll have 2 leads to the starter, one straight from the battery, the other from the ignition switch. wiring is the same as the EA71. I've converted 2 Fuglies to EA81 now.

I have that part. What i need to know is how the battery is hooked into the wiring harness. Thanks

Only two plugs near the battery. I dont believe the black plug with the two white wires is the answer. When i ran 12 v to it a relay buzzed until i unhooked it again.

The two pin (3/8" spade) connects to the battery positive terminal and provides 2 fusible links: 1 to the alternator and 1 to the entirety of the car's electrical system. The fusible links are a pain in the butt and were total garbage even when new, I've replaced mine with 60A Maxi-fuses (APX). The EA71 alternator should be 55 or 60A, and the car shouldn't really pull more than 60A, since the starter has a dedicated line (that you already have connected).
