June 15, 201510 yr hey guys i drive a Subaru legacy the body is a 98 but the motor is a 90. ive been driving it for awhile and the oil has always been good. last night i was driving when i stopped at the light, sitting in netural then to first and work my way to 2nd gear i was going up a moderate hill when my car literally lost all its fire. the car didn't die or shut off. it just simply stopped accelerating. its not the alternator or the coil. and it tries to turn over but theres not enough spark. any ideas on what it could be? this is my first subi so im not knowledgeable enough yet..lol
June 15, 201510 yr It happened to me once on the highway; tow truck city. Not an easy job; $300-$400?
June 15, 201510 yr With a '90 engine it is non-interference engine so if the timing belt did snap it most likely didn't do damage. Pull a timing belt cover and find out. It's 3x 10mm bolts.
