Which Impreza motors and trannys will bolt right up to a 93 legacy, without much problems??

Ok actually wondering about 1.8 Impreza heads on my ej22 legacy and pretty much wondering if the Impreza tranny will bolt right up to the ej22?? Also how would I go about converting my FWD legacy to AWD??

Cant help you with the heads but the EJ2.2 will bolt to that tranny as long as the engine is a first generation 2.2. As for converting from 2wd to Awd buy an Awd Subaru.

No 1.8 heads on an EJ22.  The bore is smaller and the head gaskets won't fit.  The valves are much smaller and have much less flow.

The transmissions will bolt up, no problem.

And, what he^^^ said about 2wd to AWD.

The 1.8 heads on an EJ22 has been done, so it can happen.  I'm not saying it's a good idea, but it can be done.  You'll find more info on that setup if you google, but if things don't line up correctly..........  And your looking at putting more compression on that lower end.

I don't tend to see heads fail on Subaru's so drastically that you need to replace them, it's usually the short block that goes bad.  So why are you considering replacing the heads?
