Project idea: Swap 96 impreza engine into 1980 Brat

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have been eyeing a 1980 Brat with no motor.  Wondering how much work is involved in swapping a motor from my 96 impreza and possibly the suspension.  Keep in mind I have no idea what i'm doing... so I'd have a knowledgeable shop perform the work.  Is this possible, any clue how many man hours would be involved?

1980 Brat ala Craigslist for 900 bucks.

What do you think? Possible? Reasonable? Worth the effort?  Any guess on cost?

Possible. Reasonable depending on how deep your pocket is. Cost depends on how many people would be working on the brat at a given time and how long it takes them. Retro Roo in Colorado does swaps so does Superior import repair in Portland Oregon. You could find some one on here to do the swap for you. If it tells you anything a shop charges $1500 to pull a engine and do the head gaskets then put the engine back in.
