EA82 Code 55

Featured Replies

Are you sure its the same code? Im guessing you cleared the codes.

You need to verify the specification code after removing the ground. Make sure there is no way that you are getting ground to pin 33.

5: M/T Federal emissions (wire disconnected)

6: M/T Cali (wire connected)

7: A/T Fed (wire disconnected)

8: A/T Cali (wire connected)

Unless the ECM is bad or the Loyale ecms are different, Im unsure of how you can still get this code with pin 33 ungrounded.

Read this post again. Find out what mode your ecm is running. That code doesnt exist on the mpfi chart, and its in exception (cali only) on spfi.

I chased what I thought was a code 55 in my '88 Wagon.

What I finally determined is that it actually is doing the spec code and not a 55 code.

I sat in the seat and watched it blink for a few minutes.

5 flashes, short pause, 5 flashes, long pause, then it repeated over and over.

Turns out that the second set of 5 flashes are the same duration as the first set. So that says it's flashing a 5 only, not a 55.

Had me chasing my tail for a bit.

Maybe that's what yours is doing.

This thought totally occurred to me as well, but Im getting the impression hes getting a CEL indicating an active code. But definately worth a mention...

Definitely have a CEL, definitely 5 long followed by 5 short flashes.  My other Loyale has 5 flashes with no CEL indicating no problems.

As mentioned, the car does have some other issues so maybe once they're resolved this problem will sort itself out.

Um, none?  Is it supposed to? Doesn't say anything about that in the FSM and I've successfully resolved a few other codes it had.

Oh, and the specification code is 5 on this car  ;)
