Hill Holder

Featured Replies

All:

My 1995 Subaru EJ22 is equipped with a hill holder function.   I am just getting ready to hook everything back up after clutch swap and lots of PM.

How does the hill holder work?   It appears that it would engage the brakes every time I push the clutch in...since it will pull on the cable.

Does this feature cause problems I should be aware of?

Tom

Yes it works by pushing the clutch in. They can cause problems if they stick. They can also be disconnected by taking the cable off the clutch fork.

It doesn't engage the brake.

Its a check valve type deal that only holds pressure on the brake line if you apply the brake and the clutch at the same time. The holder maintains pressure after the brake is released, until you release the clutch pedal. Then the pressure is released.

Properly adjusted, you won't even notice it's there until you need to start going up a hill.

It only keeps the car from rolling backwards down a hill. It should not keep the car from rolling forward.
