need answer now!--sealant on back plate of oil pump or not?

Featured Replies

on another thread I had multiple topics going on

I asked about putting sealant (or not) on the back plate of the oil pump when reassembling

I got one guess that someone just coated the surfaces with oil

Anyone else??  will be working on this is a few hours

95 legacy 2.2L non turbo

Of course you can't just put oil on it and expect it to seal.  Others will specify the sealant.  When I did my 97 I used a gasket from advanced auto, but almost everyone else uses a gasket former on the oil pump.

No sealant on the backing plate.

Yes, coat the rotors and the inner surface of the plate with fresh oil.
