wierd heating?

Featured Replies

When I drive my car it seems to run a little hotter when I first start driving. After not warms up that is. The guage goes to about half or a little less then half and then after a little bit drops down to about a quarter or even like a sixth of the guage. Any ideas?

This is common on many cars, its related to thermostat operation and possibly alternator output variables. What does 1/2 gauge translate too in degrees with a fully charged battery? That sounds like quite a swing in the readings, but it may not be a huge swing in temp. I dont know how the Loyales gauges are regulated, but I doubt their a precision instrument. Keep in mind the temp gauge is just a guide, If you truly think you have a problem then you need to do some testing with a temp gun. Ide be more concerned with sways in readings after its fully warmed up.

My GL would always run around 1/4 on the gauge, pretty normal. If let to sit and idle or driving in traffic until the fan came on, the gauge would read around half. Sounds like you're in the normal operating range of an ea82. The oil and temp gauges are pretty terrible in these cars, just take note of where they usually hang out, and if they deviate from that you have a problem. If your engine gets really hot before the thermostat opens and starts to cool off, you should replace the thermostat with a new one FROM THE DEALER. Don't use aftermarket crap, they'll fail. But as it is, I wouldn't worry.
