97 legacy outback Misfire on Cylinder 1&2

Featured Replies

I started a thread a few weeks ago and when I started it I had a misfire on all four cylinders. Thanks to this forum I have cleaned my Maf and replaced my cam sensor. That got rid of the misfire in cylinders 3 and 4 but still stuck with the 1&2 misfire. I have just replaced the plugs and wires with NGK and replaced my coil pack since it was still under warranty. The pack was reading low on one of the connectors so hopefully that or the cheap wires that were on it was the cause. I'm gonna give it a few days and see if the codes reappear and replace the crank sensor. I have heard it could be my timing and I should check my compression. If the codes reappear I will post them and see if anyone has any other ideas.

happened to me cyl 1& 3 turned out to be the timing belt tensioner

Could also possibly suspect the ignitor, they do fail sometimes and will result in 1-2 misfire or 3-4 misfire depending on which transistor pair failed in it. Though in your case ignitor is probably much less likely because you had all cylinder misfire which you got rid of 3-4.
