intermittent starting problems

Featured Replies

HI i have a 2009 subaru legacy and everyonce in awhile when i try to start my car it will crank over for a few seconds then just stops does nothing no clicking or cranking nothing? After a few times the car will eventually start like normal. I was wondering does anyone have any ideas or has this happened to somebody else.

How does the car run after startup? Any sputtering or rough idle? Are the cranks normal or are they slow and weak? Do you have any aftermarket electronics like a sound system or remote start?

It's a little early for this, but those are the classic signs of starter failure.  A good way to check if its a neutral switch or other problem is to touch the solenoid connection on the starter with a wire directly from your battery.  If it doesn't crank, then you know it's the starter.

I will take neutral safety switch for 500 Alix.

Sure sounds like a neutral safety switch problem to me.

If the problem only happens when hot or gets worse, more frequent when hot then, ya, starter more likely.
