I have a 87 GL, and it just quit running one day . After some digging I found it is the worm gear on the crank shaft. I was wondering if this means I will have to take the engine apart to fix it? Anyone here fixed this problem?

Presumably,you are referring to an ea-81 as the ea-82 gear is on the camshaft.

 

I have done an ea-81.No major disassembly required,IIRC.
