I have a '97 Subaru Legacy Outback with 95K miles on it, and the clutch is getting closer and closer to the top of the pedal -- barely an inch from the top. I'm assuming I'm going to have to replace it and, since it is a self-adjusting clutch, it doesn't just need an adjustment. My two questions are: 1)Is my assumption likely accurate? 2)What happens when the clutch finally does go out? (What I'm really wondering here: Will it go out gradually and I’ll still be able to drive it, or will it require a tow? Should I just get the darn thing fixed, or can I wait a while?) Any advice is appreciated!

You should notice it starting to slip when you give it the gas. The rpm's will come up more than normal. As long as its working, there is not much damage you will do. The flywheel should be resurfaced when you do the clutch Kit.
