Oil change basics

Featured Replies

The thing that really chaps my rump roast is when Mr. Strapwrench puts the oil filter on. I recently bought a new (to me) car (sorry not a subaru). As I always do, go and change the fluids first off. I had an absolute hell of a time getting the oil filter off... Who thought it was acceptable to put the stupid thing on that tight?

Sometimes oil filters just get stuck on for some reason.

I had one that I had to take a air hammer to, and I put it on.  I have no ides of what happened with it, no oil on the gasket, which I doubt, or something else.  It just refused to come off.

I've never had a hard time getting one off that I put on. This car did sit for 2 years without being used, though. Maybe that had something to do with it.

I was just looking at my sister's bill from Valvoline, instant oil change in Norwalk.  $81.85; add ons were two 1157 light replacements and a drain plug gasket.  Valvolline MaxLife 5 w 30 oil.  Just crazy.  I tell her over and over again she drives like "grandma Millie" why is she going there every 3 months at the longest?
