Am I going to buy that red 1989 GL?

Probably passenger rear spline bearing going out, you’re not the only one experiencing that, also in my own opinion 3,000 seems kind of on the higher end side? But then again California is always overpriced on everything.

Do you know what a shop might charge to fix that? Is it something a a moderately handy person with resolve should attempt?

I am tempted to offer him $2,500.

Prices out west can be a lot higher than elsewhere but you should have some idea of prices since you’ve probably been lookin at adds right?

What you win them with is what you win them to.

Be yourself

In general if a car makes a woman walk or makes her stay she’s not worth it IMO.

If the car is representative of something else, then face the facts and do something about that rather than deciding what color bandaid to cover it up with.

Figure on very roughy $250 to replace a wheel bearing.

I do look at ads, but this particular car is not well represented. I suppose I can use similar years as a reference, so I'll check. It is known that Suburus are more expensive out here, because that's what most people want to buy.

Of course you're right about relationships, BUT... you haven't seen my Civic. It's pretty representative of me, or rather how I was and don't want to be anymore. The woman would be marrying down, I'm using this as an opportunity to improve my self in all regards. It's not actually about the car, or the girl. I'm a pretty unevolved man in this regard, but I don't really find enough motivation to work hard and do well if it's not in service of a woman and eventually my family!

Should be able to compare any older gen Subaru for a ballpark idea.

Good. If you’re making changes then look for and be around people who are exceptionally healthy in every regard, not just one area of life.

I always try to get the owner to let me take the car to my mechanic before I buy (or offer).  Or perhaps meet the owner at your mechanic's shop.  If they find something or can advise you on the cost of that wheel bearing repair, negotiate a lower price on the car.  Or walk away and look on.

Ditto on the other remarks on the woman and her newer car.  You might want to walk on that one too.
