Does anybody know if a 2.5L EGR long block from 2004 with (cable driven throttle) will work in a 2005 (drive-by-wire throttle) if the intake manifold is swapped?

yes will work for 05, but not for 06 or newer.  06 uses AVLS (active variable lift system) valves with specific type heads. and pistons.

 

But yes 04 253 should work in an 05 as long as it's not AVLS
