August 8, 20187 yr I have a 2014 Subaru Outback. I would like to be able to sleep in the back in campgrounds with the hatch open, but when the hatch or any door is open, the LED lights along the exterior edges will stay on and never turn off. Is there any way to disable them, short of disconnecting the battery?
August 9, 20187 yr Manually close the latch on the hatch. Just push it in and it'll click. Car will think it's closed. Then when you want to close it. Hit the switch on the latch, it'll release it (just like opening the hatch in the first place) and you're done.
August 9, 20187 yr Author Found the solution. Just use a screwdriver to move the latching mechanism on the hatch all the way to the "closed" position (two clicks). Lights will go off. To properly close the hatch, use the exterior rear hatch handle to pop the mechanism back into the opened position. If anybody knows any reason why this is not a good idea, please chime in.
