Transmission Interchange?

Featured Replies

I've got a 2005 Outback with a 2.5L and 4EAT transmission (TZ1B7LCACA). The other day my son was driving it and the transmission started slipping real bad, to the point it won't move. I checked the fluid & the level was ok, but looked burnt & smelled too. The car has 370K miles on it, and is in really nice shape. I found a couple of used 4EAT transmissions out of the junkyard on much lower mile cars, but out of a 2005 Forester or 2006 Outback (TZ1B7LCCBA). My question is, it appears that the 2005 was it's own beast. The 2004 & earlier 4EAT doesn't appear to interchange. Also, the 2006 & up 4EAT's appear to be different too. Can anyone tell me if or why they won;t work? I can't seem to find a 2005 unit anywhere,

Thanks

Mike
