Help - Tire Size Selection

Featured Replies

hi all, i am in the market for new tires for my 2017 Legacy.

i've decided on the General G-MAX RS, but now i am conflicted choosing between a 225  https://100001.onl/ or 235. wheels are 17x8 OEM WRX wheels. car is lowered on H&R springs.

my winter tires are 235/45/17 (also General) and i have a fair amount of wheel gap, my current all seaso https://1921681254.mx/ ns are 225/50/17 (Falken) and they fill the wheel well a bit more, even with low tread.

would you guys suggest going with the 235 summer tire for the extra width? i just worry that it will have too much gap like my winter setup. i'm inclined to stay with a 225/50 because i know what it looks like, however i'd like to hear some other thoughts. thanks for any hel  https://acc.onl/hotmail

ok, this is how radial tire sizing works

1st number is the tread width in millimeters

2nd number is the ratio of the sidewall to the tread width (basically a percentage) - so a 225/50 has a sidewall height that is approximately 50% of the tread width

last number refers to wheel diameter.

so, if you want more sidewall (to fill the opening), you want that 2nd number to be higher.

there are other factors to take into consideration here as well.. how far from stock size you drift will have an affect on your speedometer readings.. faster or slower depending on whether the tire is smaller or larger than stock

a useful comparison tool is this one.. https://tiresize.com/comparison/
