Idle surge on 92 loyale

Featured Replies

I'm working on a 92 loyale for a friend of mine and at idle it surges between 1000 and 1500 RPM and continues to do so when you try to drive. The computer code is a 24 which is the idle air control valve. I replaced it with a good one and the problem persists and the computer code has stayed even after the battery has been disconnected. My thought is to replace the harness to eliminate any possible problems there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I spose you could trace back with a multimeter from the device (IAC) along the harness untill you find a problem. I really dont know what volts/amps you should be comaring against or what OHM resistance to compare to either.

Is this IAC you put on a brand new OEM part? Remanufactured part? junkyard part? It's almost always the device and not the wires. See any obviouse problems in the wires ? Kinks, cuts or freys?

Good luck !_!

The part came off of a working engine. The car was surging when my buddy bought it and we know little about the care and it's care. I have another harness in my stuff, so I just thought I might try it. I guess it could be a vaccuum leak or a bad ECU also.

Dont worry about the ECU; I'm sure its fine. Since you have the harness and the gumption, go for it. Definatly worth a shot. Also since that is not a brand new part you might try another IAC just to be sure :) Even a good cleaning out of that IAC you put on might do the trick. They can get all gummed up and varnished.
