2006 Outback with EJ25. 4 or 5 speed automatic?

Featured Replies

I need to replace the driveshaft due to a squeaking u-joint, and need to confirm which transmission I have. All I can find on the internet is that the 4 speed was used in the EJ25 cars and the 5 speed was used in the 6 cylinder cars. Is this the case, or is there some other way to identify with certainty which transmission is in the car before I order a driveshaft.

Thanks!

Yours is definitely a 4 speed automatic.

All 1990-2009 4 cylinder Subaru Legacy outback Forester Impreza non turbo (and most or all turbos) automatics are the same 4EAT (4 speed) automatic trans.

Though there were a few minor changes over the years.

Thanks @idosubaru! I appreciate the confirmation of what I suspected.

You’re welcome.  Good luck, hope that shaft takes care of the issues.
