Rear main seal EA82 Subaru XT

Featured Replies

I'm in the middle of swamping my broken clutch out in my 1988 XT. Sense I had removed the transmission I decided to change the rear main seal. I installed the new seal but I chipped the top of the new seal. Will the seal still work or should I get new one. I'm on a time schedule so would a dot of RTV do the job?

It depends how badly it’s damaged of course. One atomic particle missing is different than a a huge gaping wound.

Too much work I’d just get a new subaru seal.

But yeah add sealant if you’re okay with some risk. I’d use The Right Stuff or something beastly like that instead of regular RTV.
