July 25, 200421 yr Greetings all! Was driving & thought the clutch cable was about to give up; however, on opening up the hood, inspecting the clutch cables, found there were not one but two cables. I am used to only one in old Subarus. This one has one cable adjusted tight, the other adjusted loose. I have not seen anything like it. When I tightened the loose cable, it caused the gears to grind. The cables themselves seemed to be in good condition, not needing replacement. I don't have a manual and someone stole the reference copy out of our local library. I can't drive to any other library as I live in a remote mountain town and just have this one Subaru. Q: Is a model with a HH clutch hydrolic or vacuum-assisted? Q: Can anyone give me advise as to proper adjustment or, locating the problem(s)? thanks!
July 25, 200421 yr hi what i can see in all the info on the web, the 86 subaru with hillholder dont have hydraulic clutch and it dont have vacuum clutch either. and i didn't see any thing like it on my car when i did take it a part. and i dont really now how that function. but i wish you good luck whit it.
July 25, 200421 yr Author thanks for the response, I'm going to change the clutch cable,(it came with a spare) and if that doesn't do it, I'll be asking if anyone knows how to check for a broken or bent clutch fork. My little voice is telling me to ask about that next.
