im try to track down why my 1995 subaru is not receiving a signal to the speedo and found something electrical that doesn't seem to belong wondering if anyone can tell me what it is

I only see one wire tapped from the main harness.  can you trace blue/pink wire and see if it runs into the ignition switch? 

guessing it's a breathalyzer module that needs breathing into to start the car.

i just said oh well and cut it out and reconnected the wire seems to work without it thankyou for the reply

That's an aftermarket anti-theft module that takes a "key" that's a little flat thing that looks like it goes to a treadmill or something.  The correct repair, as you already found, is to toss it in the bin and put the wiring back to stock.
