Coolant fan switch Q

Featured Replies

My son's 86 is running hot, I checked it out and found that the rad fan didn't seem to be kicking on when it should. I replaced the switch, it comes on but not until the motor gets SPOOKY hot.

Are there different temp ranges for the switches?

Is there one available that will kick in at a lower temp?

Thanks,

The switch should turn the fan on at around 205F. Get a meet thermometer or simlar and stick it in the radiator and see what temp the coolant is when the fan turns on. Make sure the thermometer only touches the coolant and not the radiator or you may get faulse readings. It's possible that the sending unit or the gage maybe off.
