ABS problems

Featured Replies

I have 96 OBS with 4 wheel dics and ABS and Last week the ABS light came on and would go off when I turned the car off and come back a day or two later. The brakes worked fine and I had no problem but yesterday the brakes seem to be pulsating (sp?) when light brake pressure is applied at slow speeds only. If I hit the brakes hard at any speed it comes to a normal stop but if im just sowing down or using light peddal pressure it feels like the abs is kicking in. Any ideas on what to check for? And I checked the fuses and they are ok. I almost forgot but I installed a wrx brake kit 3 weeks ago even thought it shouldnt have any effect on the abs, unless I knocked a wire loose. Which Ill check tomarrow when I got time.

Do a search for "why do my antilock brakes activate when they should not". Or something very close to that. You will see that I had a similar problem. Read the post find out all of the possible causes.

I also had a mechanic tell me that it is not uncommon for your type of symptom to arise after doing brake work. They find that debris from doing the work gets on the sensor and causes the problem. In my situation it is possible that metal shavings from drilling out a busted bolt got on my sensor and messed it up. Good luck, Bert

how much brake fluid do you have?

have you checked or flushed it lately?

Full fluid and Im not sure last time it was flushed, I just bought it about a month ago.

Dirt or gunk in a wheel speed sensor, or maybe a ballooned brake hose.
