Wheel Bearings - Finished!

Featured Replies

I finally finished replacing the front driver's side wheel bearing on my 1990 Legacy Wagon. It was a learning experience, and I made it a lot harder than it actually was. I took some pictures, and notes of the process - maybe it will help someone! :-)

good pics it'd be nice if all the things we want to do are set out like that for us:)

Super! I'm actually going to replace all 4 of my wheel bearings! Two of mine are already bad, and I support the statement "If it ain't broke, fix it until it works like brand new!" :D

Those pics will come in handy. Well done joeo!

And this is my 1000th post!

Good work, I just wanted to make a couple of comments. It is a WHOLE lot easier to unstake the driveshaft nut and take it off, even BEFORE you hoist the car. And from there, you don't have to pull the hub assembly off either, at least I did not have to. I took the entire assembly with the new bearing parts to a local import shop, and they pressed out old, and pressed in new for $30. The bearing parts cost about the same as yours, Joeo. The entire job for one bearing took me 1/2 a day to do. Not bad for a solo job!

Thanks for the comments! I used an impact gun to get the castle nut off, so having the car jacked up or not didn't make any difference. The problem that I had was the bearing came apart into to pieces.
