pawtrack
i had a remanufactured cv joint and axle put on the car 2 months ago by my mechanic this is one thing i had no clue how to do. it was last month and he said that it seemed ok boot ripped and it wasnt worn much but not great but it was loose.so i had him replace it now its loose again and clunking i grabbed the axle and moved it left to right about 2 inches each way. my mechanic passed away and it so i cant bring it back. what would make it go loose again. torxxx
If the boot is ripped the axle is shot. Get another one
pawtrack
any idea why a new one would loosen up in under 5oo miles?
torxxx
well if the boot was ripped when you put it in, the grease came out, dirt got in there and the ****s bad. Also sometimes remanufactured stuff means crap parts. Is the CV Joint loose or the castle nut at the end of the axle? Depending on where its loose from, the pin that holds the axle on the tranny could have been left out and that would make the inside of the axle slide back and forth prolly 1 or 2 inches
pawtrack
unfortunately I'm not that advanced thats why i paid to have put in the current boot is not ripped but axle has play if i gave it a visual novice inspection is there something i might be able to tighten or do you think i got a p.o.s. remanufactured part? torxxx
If the castle nut on the end of the axle is torq'd to 145 lbs and it still grinds when you turn, the axle is shot
