Timing belt check?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

Is there a way to check if the Forester I bought has had a timing belt change at 105K? it currently has 114K, the point at which I bought it from a dealer. Has had all services up to this point, but timing belt? how can i tell?

I should also mention it is a 99 forester S manual....

many thanks for any advice!

If it was done by a dealer it will be in the computer. If it was done by the owner or an independent shop, the only way to be sure would be to find receipts or a maintenance log for the vehicle.

You can pull one cover and see if the timing marks are still very clear (white paint) on the belt. These wear over time and will fade. Not 100%, but better than not knowing.
