October 28, 200421 yr Midas says they use semi-metallic pads when they do the job, will this be ok, or do they need to be organic? thanks
October 28, 200421 yr you can use them but they are squeaaaly squeaky noisy and can be dusty good luck! Jamie
November 27, 200421 yr Upgrade your brakes to Ceramix. That is what is on most new cars.A lot less dust and you will notice the difference in the way the car stops. Can get them at NAPA.
November 30, 200421 yr I just got new brake pads ("lifetime" whatever that means). I'm guessing they're metallic cuz they squeeeeeeeeeel and sqeeeeeek. (thanks, Jamie!) They also STINK. Like sulphur. Real bad, embarassingly bad. I took the car back to the repair dude (Brake Doctors on Aurora in Lynnwood WA) and they took the brakes apart and put them back together again, said they were fine. I can deal with squeek, but do they have to stink?
December 1, 200421 yr Go for drive on a twisty road were you can give the brakes a workout. Get them hot enough to smell REAL bad. The binding materials will burn off the excess solvents and they won't smell in the future! Don't come to a halt with the brakes still hot, drive on for a while to let them cool again.
