October 28, 200421 yr Hey, This is my first post just to say hey, and let everyone know what im doing. I have a 92 Loyale wagon, 1.8 spfi, 4wd. It started smoking, and lost power, and running rough all about the same time, maybe not in that order. So I have assumed a blown ring and I'm about to do an engine swap with one of those japanese crate engines. I am hoping that there is possibility of a simpler solution. There is oil leaking in many places. There is oil dripping from the tail pipe(exaust smoke is blue) and also in the engine compartment. There is also oil in the air cleaner. Lots of oil. Anyway, is there a gaske t or something I could just replace, and fix it.
October 28, 200421 yr Oil in the air filter is probably PCV valve..or a clogged breather....happened to my old 88 GL..filled the air box with oil then it would start to suck it into the fuel injector resulting in a beautiful blue smoke stream...car would lose power then stall and not start for about 10 minutes. I said this on another post..you own a Loyale...they leak from everwhere imaginable..one of the joys of owning one...but my words to live by..a leaky Loyale is Not a rusty Loyale.
October 28, 200421 yr swap to an ej22 if you plan to go that far with it. or give up and trash the car by driving it off a cliff. make sure to get footage. (surgeon general warning: the last solution is not recommended by all smart people)
October 28, 200421 yr Sounds like pcv valve to me. Rings usually last a long time on these engines and don't go out suddenly. PCV failures are EXTREMELY common and would cause all that you say. Make sure you replace it with a genuine subaru valve (they're cheap) because aftermarket ones are crap.
