oil leak, yellow headlight covers and stuck seatbelt track startin to bug me..

Featured Replies

First off, the drivers side electric seatbelt track doesn't slide. It sits in one spot at the corner of the door. It works, but I have to crawl under it and it kinda chokes me a bit.

Next problem is that the headlight covers are VERY yellow. This is just a major eyesore. Can I replace JUST the covers? Actually I want to take them off and try to clean them up a bit. Do they even come off?

Lastly, There is an oil leak that REALLY bugs me. Actually I think there are two or three leaks. I found one, so I tightened it, but that didn't help, so now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have tightened it. I really have no clue where to others are. I've gotten up underneat and tightened all the oil pan screws, no luck. Any suggestions or common leak areas on this car? I'm still learing my way around subarus, and now I have an entirely different one.

Any help is utterly awesome...

I've heard that you can buff the yellow out of those headlight covers, probably could do it on the car if you can't take them off

Replace the drives seatbelt motor/track.

Buy this stuff call "flitz" on TV it comes with a buff ball and it is supposed to restore headlight covers. I use a degreaser and let it sit on their for a few seconds and then wipe off with a rag. Then rinse completly. Not perfect but better.

I do not know what you are driving but I am going to assume your oil leak is from the front of the engine. Most likely an oil pump seal. Is it coming from the front of the bloc between your oil pump (middle of block in the front) and water pump (drivers side of block front). If so you might need an oil pump seal. This requires taking off the timing belt and tensioner. Pretty much any leak in the front is going to require removal of the timing belt. If you do not feel comfortable doing the work yourself you might want to take it to the dealer or a gooood mechanic.

If it is in the rear it is a rear main seal.

Hope this helps.

First of all, a little background and more details would be helpful for others trying to help you.

I'm assuming you're talking about a first gen legacy.

The auto seat belt issue. Pull the codes and see if there are any codes in the computer to see if it's a limit switch or something like that. If no codes are present, then I'd check the motor and/or the connections going to the motor.

here's the diagnostic procedure

Oil leak. What did you tighten, where area is the oil leaking from? More details would help. Common areas for oil leaks are the valve cover gaskets, grommets, and oil filler o-ring. Also the rear cam seal (o-ring) is a normal leaker too. Depending on age and the like....the front ones can get leaky too.
