November 9, 200421 yr My gremlin is eluding me. MY turnlamps turn on but do not blink. Can the relay that controls their blinking cause this? Can a short cause this? I'm just trying to narrow this down.
November 9, 200421 yr when they turn on, are they kind of dim? Do you hear the clicking from the blinker? Might be a short, or probably a bad blinker unit. There's a bimetallic strip in there, and that may have worn out.
November 9, 200421 yr Author It is most likely from the deer I hit a couple weeks ago, but I can't find any pinched wires. I've examined the harness all round the front end and I can;t seem to find anything that is stretched or pinched anywhere. If the blinker unit is bad, do they still illuminate? There is no klicking going on. What should I look for with a test of the turn signal unit with my multimeter? All the fuses are fine on the inside fuse panel.
November 9, 200421 yr first generation Legacy's had the blinker controlled right there with the hazard button no? what kind of car do you have?
November 9, 200421 yr blinker relay to test. when they fail they often just light and don't blink. Warning, you may have caused the relay to fail with a short after the deer crash.
November 9, 200421 yr It might be possible that when you hit bambi that you shorted a wire just for a second and killed that blinker relay or a fuse perhaps. Check your fuses and replace the blinker relay. It is under the dash I believe on or near the fusebox. In the old cars they were silver and called flasher relays or mudules. They just plug into the box.
November 9, 200421 yr Author I'll check it out. Its a 93 legacy. When I hit bambi's mom, all of my front lights were smashed so it could have shorted for a brief moment. Thanks for the input.
