a Tree fell on the Forester?

 

I covered up the dent / chiped paint with a spoiler but I feel it's now time to fix it for real.

 

I was wondering what steps you recommend for treating the rust, prepairing the surface and painting the spot. I'm going to leave the dent in place and just seal the metal.

 

I have done some auto body in the past but would like feed back on doing it properly before I start on my new car.
