November 25, 200421 yr Ok, what could be causing oil leaks in a 2000 Outback with 113,000 miles ? The car has always been a little leaky, but seems worse lately. Underneath, everything is covered with oil, can't tell where leak is. Thanks, Paul
November 25, 200421 yr That's on almost every top of the line Subarus: undercarriage automatic rust treatment.
November 25, 200421 yr LOL frag! On a serious note: The cam, crankshaft, oil pump, and rocker cover seals are all prone to leaks. Replace them along with the timing belt.
November 25, 200421 yr Ok, First Degrease The Entire Engine Real Well And Then Run The Engine Until Up To Temp , Get A Good Light And With The Car Safley Raised Start Looking For The Leak Probably Wont Take Long To Find It. I Dont Like To Pay For Gaskets Or Seals That Aren't Needed. Good Luck.
November 26, 200421 yr seals. I had them all changed on my Subaru and it does not leak at all. I don't recall any vehicle I have owned so prone to seal failure as a Subaru. both my BMW and my Subaru are 99s. The BMW has had no seals changed and does not leak at all. The Subie required all of them.
November 26, 200421 yr Oh yeah, a new PCV valve would also be good idea, keeps the crankcase pressure down, and hence the oil has less incentive to seep out.
November 26, 200421 yr Author Looks like I need to replace some or all of those leaky oil seals. Is there a web site that might offer instructions on how to replace this stuff? Thanks, Paul
November 26, 200421 yr for mechanics who work on Subies. I am sure some of the other folks will give you several more.I think Josh has a lot of info on his site and he is one of the moderators here. Do a search on changing cam belts or cam seals or oil pump seals and you should find a lot of info.
