December 6, 200421 yr going to do it myself and was wondering if poeple thought it was better to pull the engine out or drop the gear box down. i was thinking gear box but all tips would be welcome.
December 6, 200421 yr drop the tranny. It'll be easier IMO. It's pretty straight forward. You'll need to make sure you have a clutch alignment tool. I'd replace the throwout bearing, pilot bearing, and pressure plate if you hadn't already planned to.
December 7, 200421 yr I didn't know they made a Legacy in 89. . . Drop the tranny, it is a lot easier. I recomend getting a clutch kit from Exedy, as they make the OEM clutches for Subaru, and the price is reasonable.
December 8, 200421 yr If you remove the flywheel to get it machined and that is std procedure it's mandatory to use new Grade #8 bolts. Do not reuse the old ones.
December 8, 200421 yr Anything after 07/1989 is considered 1990 model year. Somemakers are bumping it up to 05 of the previos year.
December 8, 200421 yr There was no 89 model year in the US....so any legacy made in 89 that was sold in the US was still a 1990 model year, regardless of the cutoff date.
