January 19, 200521 yr Hi Guys! I was surfing along with a Subaru Outback problem and ran into this site....Cooool! Had to sign up! My wife and I have a '01 Outback L.L.Bean (w/ the 3.0 H6 motor)...and since we just moved out here to the country I have been given the responsibility in maintainenance. So far everything has been well explained in the manuals, etc. I find these cars very low maintenance.....but I have one big question.... Where is, or is there, a pcv valve on this engine? I find no reference of it in the maintenance schedules or owner's manual. Is there one? If there is, where is it and how often should I change it? Thanks guys! -Neil a.k.a. DrOutback
January 20, 200521 yr On the older H4's it's on the pass side of the manifold. I would assume it has one. Try following some hoses, and see if it leads you to it. It "should" be going into the intake manifold. You might try going to a parts store, and check the books and see if there is a pcv valve listed for your year. I would assume there is, but never hurts to check.
January 20, 200521 yr Yeah, it must have a PCV Valve. The thing to take note of when looking for it is that Subaru PCV systems work in "reverse" compared to most others. It draws fresh air in through the heads and mixes it with blowby in the crankcase and the valve draws from the crankcase. (There is one more fresh air mix from the filter just before the valve.)
January 20, 200521 yr Author Thanks for the help guys! Legacy-Thats how I stumbled on you guys, I couldn't find one for my make/year in any catalog....short of going right to Subaru. Setright- I'll go start a recon mission under the hood. That 'reverse' style makes sense too, that type system burns the blowby gases better. I've seen it on some aircraft engines. Still has to be some sort of valve though, blowby gases are very dity and gunk stuff up. I've been hot-roding and working on all types of motors since I was a kid...Its gotta have a pcv valve, or some sort of new fangled vent like you guys were saying!? -Dr
January 20, 200521 yr Here's a link to a page that shows you where the valve is on an Impreza, it may be in a similar place for you. http://www.ravensblade-impreza.com/modifications/drivetrain/pcv/pcv.html
