I have a 91 Legacy 2.2 engine with the automatic. What is the specific wiring headache that goes along with retrofitting the auto into the EA82 cars?

Someone stated it was another 10 hours of wiring headaches. Really?

 

What signal(s) from the TCU has to be manipulated to make the TCU/ECU work correctly?

 

Looking for specific answers. Thanks.

Take a look at the TCU I/O I've got

Depending on what outputs are going to the current TCU....(assuming yours is automatic...and it has a TCU).....there should only be a few extra inputs.....however I'd need to see both sets of TCU I/O pages to say for sure.

I reread my post. Sorry, I was vague. I am putting only the engine into a EA82 car and was curious as to the effect the TCU would have on the ECU while running without an automatic transmission.

The engine won't care.

That's what I'm thinking. Everyone is making a big deal out of the TCU/ECU wiring that goes with the auto transplant. Is it just the physical hassle of all the wiring?

 

This question just may answer itself within the next month.

On the OBD1 cars, there's only one signal between the ECU & TCU, and that's the engine tach output.

 

All the rest of the inputs, like tps, etc, just share the same sensors and such.

 

The main deal, there's a lot of wiring to deal with.

and boy is there. i just finished pulling everything out of my parts car yesterday. I can't wait to see how much of that wiring will end up in the "extra" pile...
